CREATING CHARACTERS (Q&A)
The Aetherverse and Characters

The Aetherverse is an open-form universe based around the creatures, species and lore created by Kem Mackey/Alkemistry/aethermancy. Everything on this website may be used as reference material for RP in the Aetherverse using characters belonging to the races and species listed here.

There are two types of characters that live in the Aetherverse, Mortals and Aetherials. Mortals, such as the humanlike Manu, make up most of the aether's population and the majority of characters that live in these worlds.
Aetherials are immortal, deeply magical, or otherwise enchanted creatures that are much rarer to see and tend to have mysterious lives and goals. The creation and use of Aetherial creatures is restricted to characters purchased or designed by Alkemistry or with Alkemistry's permission, due to their rarity in universe.

Setting

The Aetherverse is set in the year 4708, in the Fourth Eon, at the dawn of the Mirrored God's emergence and the beginning of a shift toward adventuring, exploration, and new discoveries. The whispers of the Mirrored God's dark influence haunt those who reside near the aether's frontiers, but the major city-pearls operate in blissful ignorance to the issue. Adventurers and citizens eke out their own livings however they can, and individual characters' stances on the conflicts of the universe can vary greatly.

The technology and magic of different races varies by culture. Generally the Aetherverse's setting resembles the Renaissance era, with technology and medieval themes interwoven with magic and innovation. Crystal engine-powered aetherships and aethertech-constructed familiars contrast with swords, sorcery, dragons and monsters. Some cultures, such as the Zephyr, Scientian Sylori, and Caelha, are significantly more technological, leading to futuristic 'tech' powered by crystal magics, while more magical creatures like the Manu and Capry enjoy a more classical fantasy life.

Fashions resemble all sorts of fantasy themes, drawing inspiration from D&D, ancient history, science fiction, and worldwide cultures during the 1600s-1800s. The style and themes of fashion vary by species and background.

Religion has many flavors and degrees of worship throughout the aether. See the various species pages and the Gods of the Sevensix for more.

Q&A

What can I freely create/make my own?

-
You may freely make characters of the Manu species, along with one free MYO (make your own) of the Daimon or Sacred Taurian species.
-
You may use any existing Aetherial characters that you own and have permission to use.
-
You may invent minor Pearls, cities, locations, and other places for use in RP.
-
You may use existing locales as a setting for RP and invent additional details if you like.
-
You may invent family members, relations, and other characters for use in RP with your existing characters, but if they're Aetherial creatures you'll need the same permissions as any other Aetherial species. You may mention or write Aetherial characters as secondary/supporting characters if they are not designed in image form, and are not main characters.

Where can I RP?
-
You may seek out RP partners in our Discord server! This server is also the hub for art updates, sales, and lore Q&A.
-
You can publicly plot out ideas with other users and also privately participate in RP. Private RP is not moderated by the artist/admins so use caution when finding others to create with!
-
Occasionally there may be tabletop sessions set in the Aetherverse that allow you to create and use characters in a campaign setting.
-
There may also be mini RP events hosted in the Discord for those interested.

Can I use Aetherverse characters in my own/other settings?

-
Yes! You may use any design by Alkemistry in any setting, so long as you own the character/art. All this lore is optional and NOT required to follow if you own a character from the Aetherverse. You are free to redesign the character to fit other settings, but if a character based on Alkemistry's art is to be turned into a closed species owned by another artist, it must be distinct from the original design and not closely resemble the artwork.

Can I use characters from other species in the Aetherverse?

-
Yes, so long as you have permission from the original artist to use the characters in other settings. Travelers from distant realms are very possible in the Aetherverse and may make for interesting stories. You may also recreate characters from other settings to match the species in the Aetherverse.

Can I use Aetherverse characters, concepts, lore, etc. in my own works?

-
You may use Aetherverse characters in your own personal works, settings, tabletops, etc, but if any lore from the universe is taken for your own settings, we request that credit be given in the form of a link back to this website or Alkemistry's gallery.
-
You may not use the Aetherverse, characters, concepts, or lore in any commercial works or settings. If you wish to repurpose a character design for commercial use, please contact Alkemistry.
-
You may not use characters or character artwork designed by Alkemistry if you do not own the character yourself!
